Trained as an architect, urban designer, historian, and anthropologist, I conduct qualitative research on pressing social issues concerning contemporary cities, such as urban growth, heritage and social change, as well as mobility and mental health. Owing to my eclectic background, my research approach includes both inquisitive ethnography and participatory design research.

I am a co-founder and principle design thinker at Anti-Fragile Design + Consultancy (AFD+C), where we use human-centered design (also known as design thinking) to tackle some of the most pressing problems in the industry and society today. At AFD+C, we believe that to keep pace with the current form of capitalism, it's simply not enough for businesses and individuals just to be "resilient" or even "robust"—we need to be "anti-fragile." Our team consists of practical and open-minded social scientists who believe in creating a better world and society through engaged research and practical design implementation. We coach and help companies, communities and institutions rethink their roles in our society for the betterment of all.

Over the past decade, I have also been deeply involved in higher education, as a predoctoral and postdoctoral teaching fellow, full-time and adjunct faculty member, and mixed-method researcher at more than a dozen institutions on three different continents. Most recently, I was Senior Lecturer in Urbanism at the University of Sydney and International Visiting Professor in the Middle and Far East and Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. I currently hold an Adjunct Professorship in Design Culture at Chiang Mai University, where I offer undergrad courses in critical global history of design and human-centered design methodology.

I received a bachelor's degree in architecture from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Bangkok, Thailand; a Master of Science in Architectural Studies and a graduate certificate in urban design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; a Master of Philosophy in Modern Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford; and a Master of Arts and Doctorate in Anthropology from Harvard University.
